LOL, no we’re not singers or anything. :) This picture was taken a while back. It was a rainy night and we were just taking photos on the community college campus. You can kind of tell it was raining because of the raindrops splashing in the fountain, but the bright campus lights made us appear dry. So the people in this photo, from left to right, are Matt, Thomas, Jasmin, and myself. A few pictures were blended together to create this. Matt was blurry in the original photo so I replaced him with another shot that didn’t have him so blurry. I like that shot of him more because he seems to be the only one paying attention to the rain and also because  it adds a little meaning and message to the photo. After correcting colors, I added a bit of orange glow to match my shirt. The background was blurred a bit more to add slight depth of field and finally, I added stars as an effort to make it seem like it’s not as rainy as it seems. But yeah, that’s it! A somewhat gloomy picture brightened up to a happier mood. In the future, I wish to enjoy an evening that looks as great as this one. :)

So as of today, my Thanksgiving break is officially over. School starts again for me today. I was supposed to have Hamlet read by today, but I didn’t bother to read it. I know the concept of it. I think. Doesn’t matter, Sparknotes has a modern English translation of the entire play that I can probably read in an hour. I hope you all have had a great Thanksgiving break. Please continue to stay well and healthy. It’s getting really cold outside!!

OH! And I forgot to mention! It’s nothing big, but I updated the ‘About me’ page yesterday. You can click on it at the top. I was supposed to redo it months ago, but never had the time. So yeah, it’s just a brief bio about me. Read it if you have the time, thanks!

Thanksgiving Photos for Krystle

by Ruiz on Nov.27, 2009, under life, photos

Hello everybody, did you all have a good Thanksgiving? I hope so.

Thanksgiving was pretty good stuff. Was able to hang out with friends and just have a good time (and a good dinner). We decided to get Krystle in the photogenic mood and take a few shots. Some of the places we planned on visiting weren’t lit the way we expected them to be (or weren’t even lit at all). The photos came out very well nonetheless. Krystle didn’t know exactly what type of pose to do. I tried to think of some poses from the top of my head such as the mantle or that cute fist-to-cheek pose that a lot of Koreans seem to do. Even though I saw this funny video about camera poses, I just could not think of that many at the time. Nonetheless, she did them all without hesitation and with the most enthusiasm possible. Very great photos. Take a look at the gallery below and be sure to tell me how they look. :)

After playing around with my new Nikon SB-600 Speedlight for a bit, I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t need it and it’s not for me. It would be cool if  I were able to take advantage of it’s wireless flash capabilities (here’s some amazing examples from a photographer who uses external flashes wirelessly), but unfortunately my camera doesn’t support it. Relying solely on the light source being on top of the camera just doesn’t cut it. While some photos look nice with the flash, most photos end up looking better with natural light. I invested in my 35mm 1.8f NIKKOR lens to get the most of natural lights so I will just keep it at that. I’ll be returning the flash tomorrow. When I purchase a better camera in the future, I’ll buy one that supports wireless flash and invest in external flashes.

It’s 3:17am as I am typing this and Black Friday starts in about an hour and a half. I’m so glad that I don’t have to work until 9am. I’ll be sleeping for a few hours and then work until 7PM. Oh Black Friday… how you always seem to keep me on my feet, even if I’m not shopping. I hope that you all will continue to stay safe have a great Thanksgiving weekend!

Happy Thanksgiving!

by Ruiz on Nov.26, 2009, under life, photos

ghnemhjpogdshih0sejpojk. Sorry. I know it’s been quite some time since I’ve updated. Time really does fly when you’re busy. I’ve completed so many exams, essays, speeches, etc. since the last time I’ve posted. I’ve also been working on a few projects on the side, the biggest one being giving the interior of my car a new paint job. It’s really time consuming because I want it to be perfect with as much gloss and shine as possible. I’ll have pictures of it all once the entire project is completed.

Anyways, Happy Thanksgiving! Mine isn’t entirely too exciting. My mom and sister just left to a friends house and I’ll be going to a friends house later tonight to hang out and have a good dinner.

Yesterday I bought a flash unit for my camera. After looking at many photos that specialized in flash photography, I decided to cave in and buy. I have to say that it’s incredible. Coupled with my 35mm portrait lens, I am able to take extremely bright photos at very high shutter speeds. These are just a few test shots I took right after buying it. The place was pitch black, there was no lighting at all. The photos could have looked better if I took the time to read the instruction manual properly but these still came out extremely well.

Anyways. I need to get ready. I’m going to have a good dinner and take even more photos if possible. We’ll see. I’ll be sure to post way more often from now on. I can’t let those automatic Twitter posts beat me. D:
