Origami Killer
by Ruiz on Mar.09, 2010, under life
Hello again. As always, I hope that everybody is doing well. The weather has been humid and ugly all day today. Here’s a quick photo that I wanted to share. It’s an origami figure that Eunice created for me. The figure is based off of a dramatic thriller-type video game called Heavy Rain. For the past two nights, Anthony, Matt, Raymond, Thomas, and I have been playing this game nonstop until we beat it. The game is really incredible and kept all of us on the edge of our seats through the entire game. It’s a really fun and suspenseful game that gets everybody indirectly involved. The storyline is truly an incredible experience and will keep you thinking for days to come. If you have the chance to play this game, then you really should, especially with friends!!
So anyways, I finally finished my application for Texas A&M University. It took weeks for me to finish it and I’m glad that I nailed it before the deadline. I also applied to University of Texas San Antonio, kind of as a fall back plan just incase things don’t work thing. It’s crazy that it took weeks for me to apply to A&M, but only minutes to apply for UTSA. I did not apply to University of Texas at Austin because I missed the deadline (or laziness) or Texas State University because it did not offer what I needed. Well nonetheless, I’m glad that I finally have all of my college applications all squared away and I don’t have to worry about them any longer. The only thing left for me to do cross my fingers and pray that I make it, here’s to hoping! :)
Please stay happy and healthy everybody! I’m going crazy. I’ll see you soon..

Halloween weekend was fun, had it’s ups and downs. On Friday, I spent parts of the day with Thomas, Jasmin and Shalen. Just hangin out and buying our costumes and getting them set up. Jasmin had a baby and Thomas spent a loooong time at Oh Mart trying to put in color contacts. After a long wait, I decided to just help him and got em in less than a minute, ha. Eventually Matt, Devo, Richey, Cece, Krystle, Kim, Anthony, Courtney etc. etc. came down and some of us ended up hangin out at Walmart. I left early cause I was stupid tired.
Halloween day came and I decided to help my sister clean her room. My mom and sister ended up getting in a serious argument that eventually involved the police. Nothing happened though, the police just gave a lecture to my sister and left. But yeah, I helped my sister clean her room and I went to work dressed as a doctor. Work was alright, a lot of people were dressed and there was a lot of food to eat. What sucked is that I had to stay there until 10PM. Afterwards we took as many people as possible and took some group pictures of ourselves. The pictures came out very well, but they could’ve been better given that the vibe didn’t get killed too early. Nonetheless, some pretty beast photos. We split into different groups afterwards. Some of us ate, hung out, and stayed at Court’s house until 4 in the morning. And that was after Daylight Savings time was applied.
I woke up today and went to work feeling like crap. I really wanted to leave early but decided to man up and stay until I was supposed to get off. After work, I ate and took a 5 ish hour nap. So yeah, that’s my weekend. Much better than last Halloween considering I didn’t do anything last year. I haven’t studied all weekend, I’ll be sure to get started now. Oh, and pictures! Here you go! :)
Thanks Raymond. I’m glad she appears to be doing well.
Weekend in review, HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAYMOND!!
by Ruiz on Sep.14, 2009, under life
While a good amount (or not enough) of time was spent studying, other than work, most of the weekend was spent making final preparations for my friend Raymond’s birthday gift. I, along with nine other people, worked on creating a custom modified arcade joystick controller for Raymond’s birthday on Sunday, September 13, 2009. For the past two months we ordered parts and poured our hearts into the creation of this monster. After the stick was finished, we had everybody who contributed to the project sign the bottom of the stick so that Raymond would know exactly who was part of this. What we ended up with was a MadCatz SFIV SE Fightstick with a custom paint job, custom template design, red/white swapped Sanwa buttons, Sanwa joystick, and a bottom cover plate dressed with signatures unique to Raymond. Though the stick was finished weeks prior, most of the signatures weren’t collected until the very last minute. We were all rushing to get signatures but managed to get them all in time. Raymond wasn’t having too much of an exciting day on his birthday. We invited him to play some Street Fighter with us to try to get his mind off things. When his turn came to play we told him that he wasn’t allowed to play with any of our controllers. He was utterly confused, but we immediately remedied the situation by finally presenting him with his gift.
A story like this HAD to be documented. We want EVERYBODY to know what we did. We filmed the making and presentation of this gift, which you can catch on my YouTube channel. Also, here’s a couple of photos from the weekend and the video for the making of the arcade joystick. All-in-all, I had a great weekend. I’m ready to call it a night and prepare myself for school tomorrow.
YouTube video is now LIVE! You can view it here:
