Devo’s 21st Birthday

by Ruiz on Jan.05, 2010, under life

DSC_0178 How is everybody? I hope that you all are doing very well and kicking things off right this new year! ^O^

Yesterday was such a lazy day. I had so much to do and ended up doing nothing at all. My laundry is still dirty and I still need to visit the school to inquire some info about financial aid. Though I was pretty dead during the daytime, things started to become lively during the night. Matt and I decided to treat our friend Devo, who turned 21 yesterday, to a small birthday surprise. Nothing too big, just cake, snacks, and a great time together with the rest of our friends. Happy 21st Devo! :)

Shopped: Campus Quartet

LOL, no we’re not singers or anything. :) This picture was taken a while back. It was a rainy night and we were just taking photos on the community college campus. You can kind of tell it was raining because of the raindrops splashing in the fountain, but the bright campus lights made us appear dry. So the people in this photo, from left to right, are Matt, Thomas, Jasmin, and myself. A few pictures were blended together to create this. Matt was blurry in the original photo so I replaced him with another shot that didn’t have him so blurry. I like that shot of him more because he seems to be the only one paying attention to the rain and also because  it adds a little meaning and message to the photo. After correcting colors, I added a bit of orange glow to match my shirt. The background was blurred a bit more to add slight depth of field and finally, I added stars as an effort to make it seem like it’s not as rainy as it seems. But yeah, that’s it! A somewhat gloomy picture brightened up to a happier mood. In the future, I wish to enjoy an evening that looks as great as this one. :)

So as of today, my Thanksgiving break is officially over. School starts again for me today. I was supposed to have Hamlet read by today, but I didn’t bother to read it. I know the concept of it. I think. Doesn’t matter, Sparknotes has a modern English translation of the entire play that I can probably read in an hour. I hope you all have had a great Thanksgiving break. Please continue to stay well and healthy. It’s getting really cold outside!!

OH! And I forgot to mention! It’s nothing big, but I updated the ‘About me’ page yesterday. You can click on it at the top. I was supposed to redo it months ago, but never had the time. So yeah, it’s just a brief bio about me. Read it if you have the time, thanks!

DSC_0115 copy I’ll be honest. On the morning of November 8, 2009, I woke up early and went straight to work, forgetting that it was the day of my friend Jasmin’s birthday. I was reminded only by a text sent by another friend. The plan was to have scavenger hunt for her. Give her a list of clues and have her go all around Copperas Cove/Killeen/Harker Heights in search of her presents. Sounded simple at first, but properly executing it was tough. The military was delaying some people from getting started at the scheduled time. By the time they were released the sun had already set and it was getting dark. Jasmin was stressed, upset, and ready to go home. She took us to her home and just as she was about to call it a night, we presented her with her list. (Which was finely typed and crafted by me of course.) I tried to take as many pictures as possible but with many of the places being dark or indoors, it was be difficult to get a good shot. I regret not having my camera ready when Jasmin was presented with her birthday cake at the end. It was a really great cake and one of the highlights of the night. The night ended perfectly and was without a doubt one of her best birthdays. Happy B-Day Double-Jay! :)

dsc_0127 (Click image for a larger view) I was browsing through my image archive and decided to edit a few photos. After editing about six photos, I found that this one stood out the best. The color of the building on the right was orange. I decided to focus on that color and create a mood with it. The color scheme of the photo could possibly represent a few random things: heat, fatigue, or  anger just to name a few. The subject of the photo has her head pointed toward the ground and is carrying her shirt in her hand, both signs that she may be tired from walking a long distance. It reminds me of the journey Phoenix Jackson traveled in  “A Worn Path” by Eudora Welty. The way I see this photo, it represents the path that we all have to travel through in life and the hardships we have to go though to get there.

This work can also be found on my deviantART.
